Luxury hotel-branded lines are attracting first-time cruisers

Hotel-branded cruise ships are pulling in first-time cruisers willing to pay four times the cost of a traditional ocean cruise, according to booking data from Global Travel Collection (GTC), a host agency specializing in luxury travel.

The hotel-branded cruise lines include Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Four Seasons Yachts, Aman at Sea and Orient Express Sailing Yachts.

GTC found that hotel-branded voyages now account for 5% of the company’s future cruise bookings. These cruises sell at an average price of $40,000.

GTC said these travelers aren’t existing cruisers trading up; they primarily are hotel brand loyalists, often booking their first cruise.

“This is category creation, not category switching,” said GTC president Angie Licea. “They are not comparison shopping against other cruises. They are following the experience they already trust into a new setting.”

The surge in hotel-branded cruise bookings comes as the U.S. cruise industry overall is forecast to reach record highs in 2026, growing 5%, with river cruise up 25% and yacht up 40%, according to GTC.

GTC said its own bookings are outpacing the market, growing nearly three times the industry rate. The company’s yacht sales are especially robust, up roughly $3 million year over year.

“Cruise has shed its old reputation faster than almost any category we track,” said Licea. “The ceiling on what a luxury traveler will spend at sea has gone up dramatically, and the brands moving into this space are the reason why.”
